Remember:  Our team is always on hand to support.  We have plenty of experience in this area and are in regular contact with the MCNZ to ensure the information we share with you is up to date.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply for registration, you must hold a recognised primary medical qualification from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.  You must also be able to demonstrate that you meet the councils English Language Requirements.

Permanent Registration pathway

To practice as a permanent medical specialist in New Zealand, you will need to apply for registration under the vocational pathway.   There are currently three pathways, all of which differ depending on where you completed your specialist training.

In order to understand the most suitable pathway, we recommend that you complete the registration self assessment tool which can be found here.

Registering as a Locum

Working as a Locum can be a great way to gain valuable experience in New Zealand without making any long term commitments.

To apply for this pathway you need to  hold a specialist qualification on the MCNZ approved qualifications list, and have a job offer to work in New Zealand for 12 months or less.  More information on the approved qualifications list can be found here.
